When create-next-app is correct
You want the official empty app. You will write the rest. There is no reason to pay or add MCP.
BotKelp is worse at this job. nextjs-base is a base, not the Vercel CLI.
When v0 is correct
You care about how a screen looks in the next five minutes. v0 is trained on that loop. BotKelp will give you a Button and a Card from the catalog, not a marketing page from a paragraph.
When Lovable is correct
You want a running demo without a local toolchain. BotKelp assumes an MCP client and a developer who will open the files.
When BotKelp is correct
- The caller is Claude Code / Cursor / another MCP client
- You want named blocks (
supabase-client,prisma,paypal) not a one-shot blob - You want to inspect the same source the generator uses
- You want an integrity check and a catalog hash
- You may want to pay once without opening a dashboard
That is a smaller market. It is also a market the others do not serve on purpose.
Honest losses
- Catalog is small. A SaaS kit with 40 features will look “more complete.”
- Next.js only.
- Knowledge tools search the catalog, not the web.
- A paid scaffold (100 credits, or 0.5 USDC via x402) is not free; browsing the catalog is.
- Homepage is still a registry. Conversion copy is the work in front of us.
Honest wins

- Public component source
- Stamps + hashes
- Capability contracts in the engine
- Auth model that does not require a Bearer token on the MCP connection
A rule for choosing
If a human will click through a wizard, use the official CLI or v0. If an agent has to pick ingredients and you will be on the hook for npm run build, use a catalog.
